I haven’t written any new poetry in quite a while but today I did! Maybe this means I’m coming out of my slump and can finish this project. Check out my new poem Heart Break 2020 and tell me what you think!

Heart 2020

I love relationships that end in heartbreak

My lips are familiar with shades of disappointment 

I tried to change the color I apply but I suppose sadness feels more natural

People who are out of reach seem to be my thing

I love those who can’t love me back

Who have hangups that have them stringed up like marionettes 

They move to the beat of what looks better

They ignore the other strings that pull at their hearts

I revel in sad long songs, they are my soundtrack 

It’s like the writers have a look into my mind

Each word, each note paints a picture into a tragic love life

An endless list of characters who couldn’t commit

An overflowing cast of people who just wanted to have “fun”

It’s as if I have a scarlet letter burned into my forehead that says UNLOVEABLE

An unlimited stay at the heartbreak hotel

My love language is seldomly spoken

No one has time to walk in the park

No one has time to sit down for a meal

No one has time for a lingering hug

Maybe it was never meant to be

Maybe I’m the patron Saint of loneliness

Maybe my judgement is to observe the love of others but not be able to experience it

I love relationships that end in heartbreak 

I may never experience real love but at least I’ve been through the motions of it.
